At UNT, graduate students use multiple funding sources to support their education, including employment-based opportunities and competitive awards. Funding options may include assistantships, scholarships, travel awards and stipends, with some opportunities offering additional benefits such as health coverage or tuition waivers.
Graduate students are encouraged to explore funding options within their academic department, across the university and through external sources to maximize financial support.
External funding and nationally competitive scholarships can support your educational costs. UNT’s Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships provides students with resources and information regarding searching for external scholarships. UNT’s Office of Nationally Competitive Scholarships and Research and Innovation's Funding Your Research guide graduate students in identifying and pursuing externally funded research and study opportunities.
UNT offers a variety of fellowships, scholarships, grants and awards. Some academic departments offer nationally competitive scholarships. Additionally, UNT competitive scholarships of $1,000 or more per academic year may qualify for an out-of-state tuition waiver, when meeting state requirements.
Veterans and their families can apply for VA and Hazlewood education benefits and request enrollment certification with the help of our team in the Student Veteran Services suite.
Working on campus offers a convenient and flexible way to earn money while attending UNT. Students can apply for hourly on-campus positions through the Career Center.
The Student Emergency Support Program supports students experiencing unforeseen financial hardship. Staff will connect you with personalized resources such as food assistance, payment plans or housing issues. Short-term emergency funding is available in certain situations and typically requires repayment within the same semester.
