Dear UNT faculty and staff,
At UNT, we know the value of lifelong learning and the impact it can have on people's lives, their health and their well-being. We've made sure our education extends to all people who want to learn and grow throughout their lives. That is why we established UNT's Emeritus College in 2009 to formalize our lifelong learning initiatives and serve those who are 50 and older. The college has been a great success, helping to expand our reach and impact.
I'm excited to tell you that The Bernard Osher Foundation has recognized our Emeritus College's success and with its support, the college has become the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UNT. This is a big step forward. We are now one of 120 programs in the OLLI network, which will help us enrich UNT's lifelong learning programs and better serve the 50-and-older population throughout the North Texas region. I know the value of being a part of this network because of OLLI at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
OLLI at UNT is part of our Lifelong Learning and Professional Development unit and is led by Marilyn Wagner. OLLI at UNT offers more than 100 courses each year on our campus and at Robson Ranch. Beginning this summer, UNT will offer OLLI courses at our New College at Frisco in order to reach more people who want to learn, travel and connect as lifelong learners. There are more than a dozen educational trips — domestic and international — planned for this year alone.
This is a great boost for UNT. I hope you'll take advantage of the learning and teaching opportunities available at OLLI at UNT and share the great news!
UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
