Dear faculty and staff,
Six months ago we created the Talon Team as a way to promote and maintain an innovative and collaborative culture at UNT. The team was tasked with removing barriers and creating better ways to communicate and operate by focusing on process improvement across the campus.
The team has fielded 72 requests spanning a wide range of issues, including technology, human resources, budget, parking, event planning and class scheduling. While some of these issues are long-term projects that we continue to address, there are many improvements you may have already noticed. Progress has been made with changes to the core curriculum processes, enhanced feedback for the Toyota onboarding project, assistance organizing the charts of accounts, timely distribution of AOP funds, updated library titles in Outlook and support for students requiring withdrawal due to medical issues.
Your suggestions and feedback have been crucial to helping us with these accomplishments. As we continue to advance these goals that will improve UNT's culture and operations, the Talon Team offers a newly updated process improvement form to identify, analyze and improve upon existing business processes. This will help us improve customer satisfaction, increase productivity, develop employees' skills, improve efficiencies and enhance product quality. In short, this initiative will allow us to review any process you find frustrating in your day-to-day work and improve it.
Examples of process improvement requests may include:
- Eliminating parallel or duplicative processes
- Evaluating processes that have unnecessary steps or are wasteful
- Assessing processes that are in need of simplification
The team's process improvement form is located here and direct questions can be emailed to Talon.Team@unt.edu.
Thank you to those who have already sent in a suggestion — we appreciate the opportunity you have provided to help us reach our goals here at UNT. I strongly encourage everyone to think about processes that would help make our campus community stronger and I invite you to share your ideas with the Talon Team.
UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
