Dear UNT Students,
In the most extraordinary time in the history of higher education, our UNT community pulled together to ensure our students like you were able to pursue their dreams — just as we have for the past 130 years. Through the incredible efforts of our faculty and staff, we offered more classes to more students, brought new majors to the forefront, saw our graduate education programs swell along with our national and international reputation, and helped our students succeed through focused strategic efforts around affordability. We also continued our efforts to fight racism and create a more diverse and equitable campus.
Signs of the Mean Green spirit were alive and well as our students achieved accolades, including a 2021 Truman Scholarship. Our university also saw an increase in U.S. News & World Report academic program rankings and faculty NSF CAREER Awards, the opening of our First Generation Success Center and the Eagle Landing dining hall, and our student-athletes accomplished tremendous feats during March Madness, on the softball mound, and at the golf course.
As I look back over the past year, I have an enormous sense of pride in the accomplishments of our students, faculty, and staff, who have shown our resilient, caring nature like never before. I want all of you to please accept my heartfelt gratitude for what we've accomplished.
As we look forward to a full university experience this fall, we have another transition to go through, and I know you will share the same determined spirit to help us ensure the successful launch of the fall semester. I wish everyone a rich and rewarding summer as we prepare to return to the full activities of the campus we love. If you haven't registered for classes and planned your fall semester, don't delay!
UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
