Dear UNT Community,

I hope you had an opportunity to tune into the Chancellor's Town Hall earlier this month — either in person or online. Dr. Williams provided important information about his vision for our UNT System — “By 2026, the UNT System is one team, values-driven and customer-focused with an emphasis on excellence, curiosity, and innovation.”

The work of achieving that vision begins with establishing a values-based culture. To do that in a way that is meaningful and inclusive of all members of the system, we will have several Join the Journey sessions across the system to allow community members to come together and be involved. The first sessions will be hosted on our campus next week, and all sessions will have a virtual option so please participate in the one that is most convenient for you.

These sessions will provide details about how and why we are building a values-based culture as well as collecting input for crafting our system-wide values. In addition to participating in the sessions listed below, you can learn more about the process on the Join the Journey website.

Wednesday, October 26:

10 a.m. - 11 a.m. | UNT - University Union, Room 333 or online at https://bit.ly/3Sd52XU

2 p.m. - 3 p.m. | UNT - University Union, Room 333 or online at https://bit.ly/3ERQr1k

Thursday, October 27:

10 a.m. - 11 a.m. | UNTHSC - MET 109/111

Friday, October 28:

11 a.m. - 1 p.m. | UNT Dallas - Campus Hall, Student Center

Links for the sessions at the other campuses will be available on the values website as they become available.

These sessions will be followed by a Values Blueprint Workshop, in which 125 members representing all types of people, positions, tenures, and institutions within the UNT System will work together to define our values. What they create will then be reviewed by leadership across the system before being adopted and implemented. Building this set of shared values will guide how we do business going forward, and I encourage each of you to participate. As we identify and honor our values, we can improve how we engage and retain more students, faculty, and staff; celebrate a vibrant and supportive campus culture; and help our community build a better workforce.

Working together, we will become a better UNT. I appreciate what each of you does for UNT.

UNT Proud,

Neal Smatresk

UNT President
