Dear UNT Students,
Welcome to the University of North Texas and the Fall 2022 semester — we are so glad you're here! As our newest national video advertisement showcases, UNT is not like every other university. We're a caring, creative Tier One research university where you can fully be yourself. As a UNT student, you'll be challenged and inspired as you deepen your knowledge, meet new people, participate in diverse experiences, and harness the valuable professional skills that will aid you in landing employment opportunities following graduation.
UNT is proud to be the most comprehensive university in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and we take our role seriously as a social mobility elevator for our students. With more than 450 student organizations, free student tickets to Mean Green Sports events, and valuable resources like the Multicultural Center and First-Generation Success Center, there are countless ways to get plugged into the UNT community.
Don't miss out on the many fun, enriching events planned on campus this fall. View the full list of events on calendar.unt.edu, including these highlights:
- The Mean Green football home opener is Sept. 3 against SMU at Apogee Stadium.
- TEDxUNT: This Way Forward is Sept. 30. Get your tickets now.
- Family Weekend is Sept. 30-Oct. 2, so invite your loved ones to come visit Denton.
- Homecoming Week is Oct. 31-Nov. 5. Come out and celebrate all week long and help us go for Mean Green glory at the Homecoming game against Florida International on Nov. 5!
- Fall 2022 Commencement, scheduled for Dec. 16-18, will wrap up the semester.
As you navigate campus this week, plan ahead and leave yourself plenty of time to park and arrive at your destination, as City of Denton construction is creating greater traffic congestion. We encourage you to follow UNT Facilities on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram to get the most up-to-date street closures and construction information and follow UNT Transportation Services' Twitter or Facebook pages for parking and transit tips.
Feelings of uneasiness and confusion may be stirring in some of you this week, especially our newest students, but I want to assure you that UNT's 4,500 faculty and staff members are here to help you succeed with academic, life, and social resources. We care deeply about your well-being and success, as showcased in this video, and we are here to listen to your hopes and fears, then connect you with resources and programs that can lead to solutions.
Here's to an excellent fall semester!
UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
President
