Dear UNT students,
This spring semester is off to a great start, and I’ve been glad to see so many of you bustling around campus as you head to classes, the Union or dining halls to grab a bite. Even on these chilly days, the joy and excitement you and your fellow students exude warms the heart. This spring, there are more of you than last spring, and it’s good to see even more students choosing to study here as they recognize the value in a UNT degree.
Before you get fully absorbed into your coursework this spring, I encourage you to visit our new wellness.unt.edu website, which offers valuable resources on a variety of wellbeing topics – emotional, creative, intellectual, occupational, environmental, spiritual, financial, physical, and social health. You also can watch a short video from me emphasizing my hope that each of you take the time to care for each other and yourselves. Our community prides itself on caring for you, all of our students, and each other. This website is just another way we try to support that. Perhaps you will learn of a resource you need now, or it might just be comforting to know how you can get help should you ever need it.
As you embark on your spring semester, either as a new or seasoned UNT student, I have no doubt you’ll find lots of activities to engage your mind – while having a little fun. We celebrate 450 student organizations, and there’s plenty of opportunities to enjoy campus life with free student tickets to Mean Green Sports events and valuable resources like the Multicultural Center and First-Generation Success Center. You also can find our full list of events on calendar.unt.edu.
This Thursday, Jan. 26, you are welcome to join many of our faculty and staff at 3:30 p.m. in the University Union Ballroom, Room 314, to learn more about our shared values. We will be discussing the meaning of each value and hear from the faculty, staff, and students who were part of the discussions to create and adopt our shared values.
I'm wishing each and every one of you a fulfilling spring semester.
UNT Proud,
Neal Smatresk
President
