Dear Faculty and Staff,
I’m proud to see our continued growth as a Tier One research university, and I want
to take a moment to celebrate some recent milestones for research at UNT.
Last week, we hosted our inaugural University Research Day to celebrate the diverse
research we have happening across our campus. This event was about bringing us together
to learn about each other’s work, making interdisciplinary connections and discussing
ways we can work more collaboratively so we can better understand the emerging technologies
and ideas that are shaping the broader research landscape.
I appreciate those who attended, presented or played a role in organizing the event.
It was a joy to see so many faculty, staff and students show up to support each other
and learn together. Events like these are important in building relationships and
awareness about the wonderful scholarship underway throughout our university. If you
couldn’t make it, read a wrap up of University Research Day or watch a short video recap.
During the event, I shared some exciting news for the university’s research enterprise.
UNT earned a historic high of more than $86 million in sponsored project awards in
fiscal year 2023. We’ve started this current fiscal year on a high note as well with
strong growth in sponsored project awards.
These tremendous accomplishments could not have been attained without your hard work,
dedication and persistence. Our success is greatest when we all work together. You
should take immense pride in your work, your collaboration and your mentorship of
our students.
As we look toward our future, we’ll continue focusing on growing our research capacity
and ensuring all our scholars have the support they need.
I encourage you to:
- Be curious not only in your own research, but also the work of others at our institution.
- Set aside time to cultivate relationships with your students and your colleagues.
- Seek out funding opportunities externally to boost your work.
- Take advantage of the trainings and services available through your colleges and the
Division of Research and Innovation.
If you need assistance along the way, don’t hesitate to ask. We have an incredible,
caring community that is here to support and empower you.
Sincerely,
Pamela Padilla
Vice President for Research and Innovation
