Why Earn a Women's and Gender Studies Minor?

Our program serves students, faculty, staff, and community partners through interdisciplinary research and course offerings, engaging those audiences in discussions that center the lived experiences of marginalized individuals and counties.

WGST seeks imaginative ways to collectively foster queer and feminist activism, investigate the opportunities and challenges of living in a global diaspora, and collaboratively build welcoming spaces that respect and celebrate differences.

Women's and Gender Studies Minor Highlights

The program hosted Dr. Yakin Ertürk with International Studies to deliver a talk to our students at the end of September about a talk that is based on her experiences within the UN system, international law, and monitoring mechanisms when it comes to women's human rights.
The Women’s and Gender Studies Program works collaboratively every semester with the Pride Alliance, UNT Libraries and Multicultural Center to produce a series called Fem Flicks which introduces students to films about intersectional issues of gender and sexual diversity. After screening these films, a discussant leads a conversation about some of the film’s most significant themes.
The Women’s and Gender Studies Program has a library space that is open to our students who want to gather for study groups, do more research for course papers and projects, and gather in community.  Library hours change by semester but this space is generally open five days a week and is staffed by one of our graduate students.
There are 39 students currently pursuing a WGST Minor.
