Some have performed with the New York Metropolitan Opera, Cleveland Orchestra and Minnesota Opera Orchestra, while others have earned gold medals at the Van Cliburn and Chopin international piano competitions.

Music Minor Courses You Could Take

Exploration in Music II (3 hrs)
This course is an introduction to basic musicianship course for the non-music major that covers analysis, part-writing, figured bass realization and harmonization.
Music, Gender, Sexuality (3 hrs)
This course explores various intersections between music, gender and sexuality. Previous experience with musical performance (including the ability to read music) is not required or expected.
Music as Politics (3 hrs)
This course explores various intersections between music, activism and politics. Previous experience with musical performance (including the ability to read music) is not required or expected.
Sounds and Cinema (3 hrs)
This course develops critical and analytical approaches to the soundtrack, music’s role in the soundtrack, and the relation of soundtrack and imagetrack (especially relating to music) on small-scale and large-scale (narrative) levels. Previous experience with musical performance (including the ability to read music) is not required or expected.
History of Rock (3 hrs)
This course explores key moments in the history of American popular music from 1945 to 2000. Previous experience with musical performance (including the ability to read music) is not required or expected.
Exploration in Music I (3 hrs)
This course is an introduction to basic musicianship including elements of music, staff, clefs, key signatures, scales, time signatures and notation. Credit in this course may not be applied to a music degree.
