Design your future as you see it. Graphic designers play an important role in conveying the visual message of products or services in unique ways.
The undergraduate Communication Design program graduates effective conceptual thinkers and creative problem-solvers in the areas of Graphic Design and User-Experience Design. In both concentrations, students begin by learning to use the basic elements and principles of design and apply design thinking and design process to learn concepts, technology, image-making, color theory, typography, user analysis and client needs, wireframing and prototyping as students create wide and diverse visual means of communication.

Why Earn a Communication Design Degree with a Concentration in Graphic Design?

Graphic designers generate original, creative visual communication and ideas and apply technology and a design process to work toward a visual solution through prototyping. Communication Design Degree with a Concentration in Graphic Design Courses You Could Take

Foundations of Communication Design (3 hrs)
Computer hardware and software and their application in communication design.
Image Making and Color Theory (3 hrs)
Students develop conceptually-based analog, mixed media and digital illustration skills, as well as study and apply color theory.
Graphic Design (3 hrs)
Students design graphic design artifacts such as visual identity development and collateral, which may include, but are not limited to, brochures, stationery ensembles and/or poster design.
Cause-Based Design (3 hrs)
Exploring the role of communication design in addressing societal and cultural issues.
Graphic Design Final Portfolio (3 hrs)
Students develop a minimum of one new comprehensive graphic design campaign in addition to polishing preexisting campaigns.
Typography I (3 hrs)
Teaches students about typography’s formal, plastic qualities. Topics covered include typographic anatomy and vocabulary, character manipulation, typographic semiotics and the relationship existing between type and color. Participation in the mid-point review is required to pass the course.
