Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) Highlights

Our students benefit from opportunities in research and clinical practice because of the solid network we have developed throughout North Texas and across the United States.
Completing required coursework, laboratory training and clinical practicum experiences qualify you for national certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (CCC-A) and satisfy the requirements for Texas state licensure in audiology.
Along with the on-campus practicum at the UNT Speech and Hearing Center, off-site practicum opportunities are available at more than 100 sites in the region, including Children’s and VA hospitals, private practices, public schools, ENT practices and more.
All practicum requirements are closely monitored by a clinical supervisor, who will also review clinical competencies each semester.
Our students have a 100% pass rate on the ASHA Praxis Exam, and more than 90% of graduates are employed in the field of audiology within one year of graduation.
To support your academic success, we offer laboratories for research, clinical treatment rooms, a clinic library, a student workroom and a computer lab.

Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) Courses You Could Take

Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology of the Auditory and Vestibular System (3 hrs)
Neuroanatomy and neurophysiology of the hearing and balance systems. Emphasis on both afferent and efferent systems.
Medical Audiology (3 hrs)
Functional anatomy, physiology and neurology of the hearing mechanism as applied to various pathologies and their otological management.
Pediatric Audiology (3 hrs)
Clinical evaluation and audiological management of children with normal hearing, hearing impairment, developmental delay and special considerations.
Advanced Audiologic Assessment (3 hrs)
Application of pure tone, speech audiometry and electrophysiological measures to complex auditory problems.
(Re)Habilitative Audiology for Adults and Children (4 hrs)
(Re)Habilitative management of adults, infants and children. For adults, content focuses on the assessment of communication function and appropriate remediation strategies. For children, content includes management strategies, amplification considerations, treatment methodologies, strategies for speech and language skills assessment, and educational options.
Clinical Audiology Observation (2 hrs)
Directed observation in the audiology clinic followed by development of basic audiological skills through introductory clinical practice, including case history, basic audiometry, recommendations and record keeping.
