A B.B.A. in Accounting prepares students to become accounting professionals who can work in any industry, anywhere in the world. Our students will be technically competent in the specialized tenets of accounting, but also will learn to be independent and critical thinkers, to act responsibly and ethically, and to seek challenges that will make a difference in their careers as well as the world. Our accounting program has been ranked one of the top 50 undergraduate accounting programs nationally (according to Public Accounting Report’s 2018 Top 50 Undergraduate Accounting Programs). Our students gain substantial knowledge of business fundamentals, including finance, economics and data analytics, while obtaining a breadth and depth of knowledge in the field of accounting, including financial accounting, managerial accounting, internal auditing, tax and accounting systems.

Many of our graduates work as top executives in national public accounting firms, Fortune 500 companies or government agencies and have even started their own businesses. In the accounting profession, you can pursue careers including:

  • Certified public accountant — conducting audits for local, regional or international firms
  • Corporate accountant — generating information for managerial decision-making
  • Forensic accountant — helping the FBI, Department of Homeland Security or IRS conduct criminal investigations
  • Internal auditor — helping an enterprise function more efficiently
  • Tax planner — formulating tax strategies for individuals and businesses

Accounting Bachelor's Courses You Could Take

Cost Accounting (3 hrs)
Accounting in manufacturing operations; cost concepts and classifications; cost accounting cycle; accounting for materials, labor and burden; process cost accounting; budgeting; standard costs; cost reports; direct costing and differential cost analysis.
Accounting Systems (3 hrs)
Introduction to technology/accounting information systems and their interface with business processes, internal controls and database management systems. Emphasis on maintaining and auditing system security and integrity. Practical experience with a commercial accounting package and database management software.
Auditing — Professional Responsibilities (3 hrs)
Introduction to auditing and the professional responsibilities of a career in any specialty of the accounting profession. Topics include the legal and ethical responsibilities of accountants; professional auditing standards; the acquisition, evaluation and documentation of audit evidence; and reports on the results of the engagement.
Introduction to Data Mining (3 hrs)
Knowledge discovery in large databases, using data mining tools and techniques. Topics include data exploration, modeling and model evaluation. Decision making in a case-embedded business environment is emphasized.
