Students who have earned a GED and who either have not attended college or, if so, have earned fewer than 15 semester hours of transferable college work may seek admission to UNT through an Individual Review process.

How to apply for admission to UNT with a GED

Students should submit the following items to the Office of Undergraduate Admissions:

• Application for admission. Apply on ApplyTexas.
• The application fee
• Official SAT or ACT scores. SAT and ACT scores are encouraged but optional.
• Official transcripts of any completed high school courses
• Official transcript of GED scores 
• Official transcripts from any colleges or universities attended

Other requirements may include, but are not limited to, letters of recommendation, a personal statement/essay, and an interview with admissions staff.

UNT Admission Requirements for GED Students

An applicant's GED certificate of completion must reflect a minimum score of 165 on each of the four exams.

Applicants who have completed 1-14 hours of college course work must meet a minimum college grade-point-average requirement of 2.5 on a 4-point scale. Applicants with scores from 145-164 will be individually reviewed and required to submit additional documents such as an essay and letters of recommendation.

Individual Review of Application

Individual Review is an automatic process whereby UNT Admissions reviews the application of any student who does not meet minimum admission requirements. If you are eligible for Individual Review an email will be sent to you with information on required documentation and how to upload the documents to your myUNT portal.

Factors that may help determine academic readiness under the individual review provision may include, but are not limited to, the following: school attended, courses taken, employment experience, special abilities, individual achievements, leadership activities, public service, and extra-curricular activities.
